straight-bar shoe

A straight-bar shoe is type of bar shoe. The branches are connected by a straight bar of metal. A straight-bar shoe can be hand forged from one length of bar stock or it can be made by welding a metal bar or plate between the branches of a conventional (hand or factory manufactured) shoe.

The purpose of this type of shoe is to load additional structures within the hoof such as the bar and the frog while stabilising the hoof to a certain extent by limiting capsular movement.
