enzyme

Proteins which play an important role in many metabolic processes and biochemical reactions in the body. Enzymes are produced by living organisms, and catalyse the change of molecules without changing themselves. In digestion for example, an enzyme acts as a catalysator for the break-down of substrate (certain molecules) into products (generally smaller molecules).
