A term originating from the french expression for 'binding'. In medicine this refers to the process of fastening a loop (generally made of wire) around an object to hold it together (such as the ends of bone in a fracture). On hooves, wire cerclage is used to stabilise a deep vertical hoof crack by attaching a wire loop (or loops) around shallow screws inserted either side of the crack.
