The most commonly used type of bit. Its mouthpiece consists of two pieces of metal which are joined by one or two joints in the middle (single or double jointed snaffles). The mouthpiece is attached to a ring on each side, which may either be loose (running through the ends of the mouthpiece) or which may be joined to T-shaped endings of the mouthpiece (eggbutt). The rings are either round (O-shaped) or D-shaped. Some bits have longer bars between the mouth piece and the rings (called full-cheeks) which percent the bit from being pulled through the mouth and give it more lateral stability.
