There is still much research needed to clarify the genetics behind all the visible colour variations in the horse, as well as to document the effect of interactions between various modifying genes. These combinations can result in unique colour variations. On the whole, it is not always possible to discern the genetic basis of a horse’s colour, especially when modifying factors are involved.
