Blood vessels – Capillaries

The smallest vessels of the circulatory system are the capillaries; their thin walls are made of little more than a layer of endothelial cells. They are so small in diameter that only single blood cells can pass through them at a time. The thin walls allow the exchange of substances to take place between the blood and the tissues.
