Optional but common part of the bridle. A thin leather strap which is connected to the noseband and runs around the horse's muzzle, just in front of the bit. It is used to prevent the horse from opening its mouth wide enough to get the tongue over the bit. It should not be used to tie a horse's mouth shut.
