Component of an animal's diet which refers to fibrous plant-based feeds. Examples are grass, hay, silage, haylage or even straw. The term is used interchangably with roughage. Forage should always make up the largest proportion of a horse's diet. When used as a verb, to forage means to move around looking for food.
