The various types of horseshoes differ according to the following features:

• The section: width and thickness

• The profile: fullered shoe, fullered concave shoe, plain stamped shoe, etc.

• The material: steel, aluminium-alloy, other metals, synthetic

• The number of clips: no clips, 1- or 2-clipped shoes

• The type of holing: coarse or fine (specific to manufacturer)

• The distribution of the nail holes

Point to note: certain horseshoe manufacturers only produce front or hind shoes but no right or left shoes. As a result, these shoes have branches of identical length and identical positioning of the holes on both branches. This does not take into account the anatomical characteristics of an inner or outer hoof wall. Generally, the outer hoof wall is slightly longer and thicker.
