Stamped horseshoes are only rarely used these days. However, their use still makes sense in heavy breeds, draught and working horses. The stamped shoe has the advantage of superior abrasion-resistance and can be attached more firmly to the hoof as every single nail head finds purchase on all sides and hence is better protected.

The western horses’ sliding shoe is also manufactured as a stamped shoe. In this branch of sport a smooth ground surface is the prerequisite for the sliding stops.

These days, the advantages of the fullered shoe prevail in most day to day use: the shoe is lighter in weight – something not only racehorses may benefit from, and due to its better malleability it is easier to shape, both hot and cold. Furthermore, by dint of its profile, the fullered shoe offers more protection against slipping, even when the nail heads have been worn flat.
