These are effectively removable shoes for horses. The purpose of these hoof shaped boots is very similar to that of metal horse shoes: they protect the bearing edge and sole of the hoof when the horse is exercised on hard ground. They are generally used on horses that are not shod. They can be used temporarily on horses that have lost a shoe to prevent pain and further damage to the hoof.
