A substance which reduces inflammation. Anti-inflammatory drugs act by intervening in a part of the inflammatory pathway (a chain of reactions that leads to the inflammation being recognised by the central nervous system). There are two main classes of anti-inflammatory drugs; steroidal and non steroidal, which have different mechanisms of action.
