A manual examination of the skin and the structures or body cavities underneath it. Palpation can be performed with a light to a firm touch and deeper structures can be palpated with kneading movements of the fingers. This form of examination can reveal changes in surface temperature, changes in form or consistency of a structure, or elicit a pain response.
