panel channel

gullet

The channel between the saddle's panels which runs from underneath the pommel (front) to underneath the cantle (back) and should be of even width throughout. The channel must be high / deep enough to ensure clearance of the spine along its entire length. This is best assessed at the front (underneath the pommel), where the space between the horse's withers and the pommel should allow the insertion of at least three fingers (when the rider is mounted).
